Recreation Programs

The Town of Gravenhurst is home to a wide range of recreational, arts and cultural programs for youth, adults and seniors. Some opportunities are offered directly by the Town and others by wonderful organizations in our area. Sizzle & Stir - Cooking

Welcome to Sizzle & Stir - Cooking, where kids and teens learn to chop, stir, sauté, and serve up delicious dishes in a fun, supportive environment! Our age-specific culinary programs focus on developing kitchen confidence, essential cooking skills, and a love for real food. With a blend of nutrition, culture, creativity, and teamwork, Sizzle & Stir offers something for every budding chef—from tiny tasters to teen gourmets.

STEM Explorers is a hands-on program where children discover Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math through fun activities, experiments, challenges, and creative projects. Each month features a new STEM theme, encouraging curiosity, creativity, problem-solving, and discovery. Register for one month or join them all—each session is a stand-alone experience!

Wilderness Explorers

Wilderness Explorers is an engaging outdoor program where children build confidence, independence, and practical wilderness skills through hands-on learning and exploration. Participants will learn shelter building, fire safety, navigation, nature awareness, outdoor cooking, knot tying, and Leave No Trace principles through fun, age-appropriate activities. Each session encourages teamwork, problem-solving, resilience, and a deeper appreciation for the natural world.

Creative Kids

This introductory artistic gymnastics program will teach the necessary basics of warming up, conditioning muscles and beginner gymnastics on all 4 events. Tumble Kids is a fun, energetic program that introduces children to the basics of gymnastics and movement. Backyard Discovery

Backyard Discovery invites adults and kids to get outside and explore the natural spaces in their own backyard. Join us for drop-in hikes through local parks, trails, and green spaces while discovering seasonal changes, local plants and wildlife, and the hidden gems that make our community special.

Off the Map: Geocaching Adventure

Geocaching is a fun outdoor adventure combining exploration, problem-solving, and technology. Participants use GPS-enabled devices or a geocaching app to find hidden caches while learning to follow coordinates, clues, and trails. Perfect for adults, families, and groups of all experience levels, geocaching encourages teamwork, curiosity, and adventure while getting everyone outdoors and active.

Note: Participants must provide their own GPS-enabled device.

Cooking Classes

Intro to Pasta Making

Discover the delight of creating authentic, hand-pressed pasta in this 2-hour culinary experience with red seal chef, Jessica Anderson. You will be guided through the fundamentals of mixing, kneading, and resting dough. You will learn the traditional "well" method, and how to use a pasta roller to achieve that perfect al dente bite. The class concludes with a tasting of your freshly made pasta accompanied by traditional sauces.

Online registration is convenient and user friendly. We use a registration system called ActiveNet and it only takes a few moments to set yourself up. Once your account is created and activated, you will be able to register for programs and view receipts from previous programs. Please note that as a parent/guardian of a household, you will need to create an account for yourself first, then you will be able to create one for your child.

IN PERSON
Drop off completed registration form (PDF) at the Centennial Centre – Recreation Department Office. In person registrations are available during office hours.

The total fee is due at the time of registration. Payments may be made by cash, debit, Visa, MasterCard or cheque (payable to the Town of Gravenhurst).

Our priorities are safety and communication. Sometimes unexpected events necessitate that a program or service must be moved, postponed or cancelled outright. In those circumstances we will post the relevant information as soon as it is available. Every effort will be made to make up the affected missed classes if possible.

During bad weather days, decisions whether programs will be running or not will be made by 3 hours in advance of the program start time and the information posted. The Town will make every attempt to list all current emergency or unexpected cancellations or closures for Town of Gravenhurst programs and events. However, we cannot guarantee that a cancelled program will be listed here. All Town of Gravenhurst programming may be subject to change. Please use your own best judgment to assess local road conditions before venturing out.
